I have carefully crafted this guide to include anything you may want or need to know about Karaburun and by the time you finish this guide you will understand why it has so much charm.
It is my greatest honor to host you here and give you the best experience possible. I have been fortunate enough to spend many years in Karaburun and feel I have included some of the key things that are the truest representation of the village that I love so dearly.

The oldest name known for the region was Mimas, in reference to the son of Gaia who was one of the Giants slain by Hephaistos during the war between Gods and Giants in Greek mythology.
There are different possibilities for the name Karaburun. One that is mentioned that it would be a modified form of Caleberno. Another possibility may have to do with the very translation of the Turkish name, which means "black cape", a fitting description especially for sailors who approach Karaburun Peninsula from open sea met this black cliff first.

If you are looking for the best beach times with the warmest weather AND warmest waters, you can expect mid June to early September to be absolutely perfect! During these months the weather will typically range anywhere from 21ºC to 30ºC. You can be sure to feel the sand between your toes and feel refreshed in the clearest waters you have ever walked into.

With warm weather, comes warm waters! You can expect the water to be a perfect range of 21ºC to 23ºC during the hot summer months. Is there a better word to use than PERFECT?

Karaburun
If you are looking for the best beach times with the warmest weather AND warmest waters, you can expect mid June to early September to be absolutely perfect! Awarded as one of the best 10 beaches in Turkey !
This ‘Blue Flag Beach’ is only 350 meters from our place. Another name of this beach is “Aquarium Beach”. If you visit this beach you will experience the crystal clear water and understand why they call it aquarium.
Also you can enjoy the sunbath and umbrellas with small fee here. There is no entrance fee so you can also enjoy the area with your own towel.
One of my morning routine is walking to this place right after the bed and wake up in this amazing water. It will only take you 6-8 mins on foot :) Just bring your towel and jump in for the perfect wake up call !

It has pebble beach and you can enjoy the free shades provided by the municipality. Also there is a cafe bar where you can enjoy your drinks and eat when you are hungry because of swimming :)

You will see a traditional method of catching mullet, which is unique to the region.
Kuyucak Caddesi
Kuyucak CaddesiOne of the blue flag beaches of Karaburun is Kuyucak Bay. This bay is also very near to pier, only 850 meters away from our house.10 - 15 mins walk by the sea will take you here.This beach is more secluded than other beaches, but it is no different from other bays in terms of clarity. It has pebble beach and you can enjoy the free shades provided by the municipality. Also there is a cafe bar where you can enjoy your drinks and eat when you are hungry because of swimming :)

One of the secret gems of Karaburun is this Bay and I can say that my favorite. Most of the tourists can not find this place since it is truly hidden. You are not able to see this place from the road and it has a small door where you can have access with some stairs down. But it definitely worths it ! Only 600 meters away .
If you are lucky you can find natural sponges here like me :)

Since the beach is covered with pebbles, you may want to bring sea shoes when you come here. Since it is located in the center, the bay gets a bit crowded in the afternoon. Therefore, it is much better to go here in the morning.

Mimoza Bay, which is preferred by families with children with its shallow and calm sea, is located in the center of Karaburun. There are many cafes, restaurants and businesses around the beach. Since the beach is covered with pebbles, you may want to bring sea shoes when you come here. Since it is located in the center, the bay gets a bit crowded in the afternoon. Therefore, it is much better to go here in the morning.

Bodrum Koyu Plajı
Kepez CaddesiIt is quite popular, but when you go, you will see that this popularity is not in vain. This is an immaculate cove beach, which is so beautiful that you can see the stones underneath, and deepens quickly.
There are hotels and hostels at the back. It also has restaurants for dining. We recommend it to those who want to eat fish at the seaside.
We cannot say that it is not suitable for families with children because the sea deepens fast, because we think that you also have the right to see this. Also you can bring your own umbrella, apart from using the umbrellas and sun loungers of the businesses.

It’s 3,8 km away from our house and it takes only 10 mins by car. Since this area is naturally preserved the roads can be a bit bumpy for about 3 mins while you are reaching the area :)

Dolungaz Camping Area
Among the Karaburun bays and beaches, this is where the color of the sea is perhaps the closest to turquoise. A nice tent campsite as well.

You should definitely visit İsmet Usta Altın Tabak İskele restaurant, which has been serving for more than 40 years and has sea & island views, which is one of the favorite restaurants of our guests and also myself.
All seafood is purchased daily from the local fishermen. You can taste the unique flavors of the Karaburun sea in this restaurant with peace of mind. Apart from seafood, it also offers you a wide range of dishes with grilled dishes and baked goods such as pita and lahmacun. This restaurant by the sea offers also magnificent appetizers to accompany our guests who want to drink alcohol with a magical view. Our guests generally say that the prices are reasonable compared to other restaurants.
Here are the ones we recommend you to taste:
*Fish Roast (There are 21 types of mullet, which is unique to Karaburun, usually caught in the Daly’s (Traditional huts in the sea). In this roast, the mullet is sautéed with tomatoes and peppers and served under fire)
*Squid & Octopus
*Seafood lamp bagel. (You should definitely try this flavor, which is covered with sesame seeds and contains various seafood.)
*Hot herb plate (A unique flavor consisting of Aegean herbs such as Şevketi Bostan and Cibez served in a casserole dish with garlic yoghurt on top)
*Artichoke (If you are visiting us between March and May, you have the chance to find this flavor grown in Karaburun at the restaurant until the end of June.)
*Wood-fired pizza (It may sound strange why we recommend pizza at first, but the master processes the pizza dough, which is opened thinly in the wood-fire, really well. It has received full marks from all our guests so far.)
* We especially recommend you to taste the appetizers. It is made fresh, daily to suit all tastes. If you are visiting our country for the first time, the basic appetizers to be served with raki may be as follows: Fava, haydari, eggplant paste, Coban salad.
Note: You may need to make a reservation in advance if you want to sit at one of the tables near the sea, as it is very crowded in the summer season. You can contact me if you need support.
There is a fish auction 30 meters from our flat. If you wish, you can buy your own fish from here and tell İsmet Usta that you are my guest, and he will cook it for you.

Or are you looking for a place where you can find breakfast , lunch or dinner all ? We have a great suggestion for you. Karaburun Kitchen is one of the favorites of all the people of the region with its home-cooked meals. It is one of the places you should definitely visit with its very affordable prices and friendly service.
There is an indoor as well as an outdoor space among olive trees. In addition to products such as meat / chicken sautéed meat / chicken, tas kebab, fish, there are also vegetable dishes such as cauliflower, eggplant , spinach, fresh / dried beans, which vary according to the season. Along with the main course, you can have side dishes such as soup, pasta or rice. In addition to these, you can complete your table by adding dessert, salad or tzatziki. Apart from dozens of juicy dishes, you can also choose grilled products. You can find most meat, fish and chicken products here. We also recommend that you try their appetizers (Mezes).
If you don't want to leave the house, they have thought of it too and takeaway services are also available! You choose and your food will be brought to you.
As we mentioned above, most of the people of Karaburun prefer this place, especially during the weekdays, so it can be crowded between 12:00 and 14:00. Since there may not be any food left outside these hours, we recommend that you visit or order taking this into account if you want to eat lunch. Let us introduce you to Sarpıncık lighthouse, the place where you can experience the most beautiful sunset in the Aegean Region.
This veteran flashing lighthouse, which has been in service since 1938, works with solar energy and defies years with its imposing 12-meter body.
After Yeniliman, which is a little ahead from the center of Karaburun, 12 km further, when you approach the tip of the peninsula, you first go to Sarpıncık village, then climb the hills and follow the Sarpıncık Lighthouse signs at the farthest point and start descending on dirt paths.
Here is Sarpıncık Lighthouse, which is 97 meters high from the sea level at the farthest point of Karaburun, and embraces you with a ton of wisdom in its garden.
The shaped rocks accompany it, and the smell of seaweed and iodine from the sea, given to you by the wind accompanying the unique smell of wild thyme that surrounds you, dance around you..
If you wish experiencing this magnificent sunset, you can take your food and drinks with you and watch the colors of the sea and the magnificent fire dance over Chios Island.

Did you know that it is also famous for its more than 70 varieties of purple flowers? Compared to Çeşme and Foça, we can say that Mordoğan is less crowded. Located approximately 20 km from Karaburun, Mordoğan is a beautiful destination where you can visit daily with its natural beauties and bays. WISH FOUNTAIN
Wish Fountain is an ideal place for those who like mythological stories. It is possible to reach the wishing fountain by taking a right turn while going up 2 km from Mordoğan Village. Here, a sign describing the legend of Narcissos welcomes you, and the sign reads:
'According to legend, the beautiful scent of the narcissus flower began to travel the world from here. Despite its delicate appearance, the daffodil, which wraps Karaburun every winter with its durability, has its origin in the Wish Spring in Mordoğan, where you are now. In Greek mythology, the fairy girl Echo, who is known for her speech as well as her beauty, is punished for this feature. Hera, the wife of the chief god Zeus, the goddess of marriage, casts a spell on Echo. Now the fairy will repeat only the last word of everything she hears. (This is where the word echo, which means sound Echo, comes from) One day, Echo sees the handsome Narcissus in the forest and falls in love with him. Even though she desperately wants to speak, all she can do is repeat his last words. Narcissus gets bored. Echo cries a lot and turns into a rock. Only the sound remains as the echo, which we call “echo”. The gods on Mount Olympus get angry with Narcissus and punish him. One day, Narcissus, who went down to the river to drink water at the foot of Mimas Mountain, saw its reflected beauty and fell in love with himself. He remains motionless as he watches himself. This time it is his turn to melt day by day. When he dies, his body turns into daffodil flowers in this ancient spring.’

The Müesser Aktaş Ethnography and History House is a unique museum located in the Mordoğan neighborhood of Karaburun, Izmir.
It was founded by Müesser Aktaş, who collected a variety of old items that were both inherited from her family and gathered over the years. Her journey started when she realized the value of these items while cleaning her home and has since accumulated a significant collection. With the support of her friend, Sabiha Tansuğ, an ethnologist and researcher, Aktaş transformed the lower floor of her home into a museum, which opened in 2007. However, as the collection grew, she had to find a larger space. She chose to renovate her old primary school in the village of Old Mordoğan and opened the Müesser Aktaş Ethnography and History House in 2012. The museum displays a range of items, including local clothing, crafts, photographs, kitchenware, agricultural tools, a barber's chair, and a sewing machine. The oldest piece in the collection is a bridal jacket from the 18th century.
Visitors to the museum can also explore the nearby Ayşe Kadın Mosque, the oldest mosque in the region, and the Wish Spring (Narkissos), located 2 km from the museum. The museum's garden is also the site of the annual Local Food Festival. If you're ever in Karaburun and Mordoğan, be sure to visit this charming museum and meet Müesser Aktaş.

Come and join us to explore the magical underwater world ! This tour is "FOR BEGINNERS", therefore no prior scuba or swimming experience is required. We are the most experienced & qualified diving school in the area with more than 15 years.
This introduction to Scuba takes about 2+/- hours including a general brief about Scuba , get to know about the equipments, basic instructions our diving plan and a fun dive ! (English & Turkish available)
You will be diving with me or our diving professionals from the beach and swimming out up to 5-7 meters depth under the water. During your experience you will have a chance to feed many friendly fish while we are capturing your amazing pictures of your unforgettable moments. All inclusive and no hidden fees.This will be a wonderful experience that you will be talking about forever !
Let's get comfortable :
Your dive pro will start you out in waist deep water to show and practice breathing underwater and teach you some basic scuba diving skills. Everyone learns something new and gets comfortable differently, that's why tour length varies depending on the group.
Guided Scuba Dive:
After our dive pros get you comfortable and feel comfortable with you they will start giving you and underwater tour, showing you underwater life and fish. You will also have a chance to feed fish and interact with the sea life. While you are enjoying the underwater life we will capture some of those unforgettable memories !
Duration :
This introduction to Scuba takes about 2+/- hours including a general brief about Scuba , get to know about the equipments, basic instructions our diving plan and a fun dive ! (English & Turkish available) Depending on your group size and how you do in the water duration may vary.
Bring your bathing suits and sunscreen, towel or any items you would normally take with you to the beach. You will be able to leave your items in our storage. Also , you can use the sun beds we have in our facility for free if they are available before or after your diving experience.
To sign up you must be at least 14 years old and in reasonable physical health.
* **If upcoming weather conditions make it unsafe for your scuba diving experience, I will cancel the experience and you will be fully refunded. **
We will be meeting in our diving school that is in Karaburun / İskele which is very easy to find. Please let us know if you are not visiting us with your private car. We can share the public transport options with you.
Equipment
You will get a full set of scuba equipment including mask, fins, snorkel and wetsuit. If you have your own snorkel gear, please bring them wit you.
