Ennis is an old western town that hosts hikers, flyfishermen, travelers, cyclists, and explorers. Located right on the Madison River, a world-famous blue ribbon fishery, Ennis is halfway between Yellowstone National Park and Bozeman. Easy access via Bozeman Yellowstone International airport opens the door for visitors to explore historic mining towns of Virginia City, Nevada City, Lewis & Clark Caverns and many more, all within a short drive. Ennis is a friendly place where people greet each other with a smile. Ennis lake and the river offer watersports from float tubing to kayaking and swimming. On the weekend local actors help your re-live times long past. Meet the sheriff, the town drunk, doctor, bar keep and just plain folks that help you learn about life in the 1880s. Visit the tin smith, watch a gun demonstration or learn how brooms used to be made. This place is a ton of fun for the whole family.

Water Sports
Ennis lake is both a nice fishery as well as a watersports delight. While there are no boat rentals available, the lake does have a very nice public beach for swimming and hanging out at the north end of the lake.

Call ahead to reserve yourself some inner tubes and take a leisure float on the Lower Madison River which meanders through some truly spectacular landscape.

Visit the crystal clear waters of Wade Lake. The Wade Lake Cabins rent kayaks, canoes, SUPs, and motorboats. The Montana State record brown trout was caught here in 1966. At 29 pounds it remains the current record even though a 28 ½ pounder caught here in the late 1970s tried very hard to best it. Get there in under an hour by taking state highway 287 south.

Sightseeing
Yellowstone national park is just an hour away and accessible through the town of West Yellowstone. We recommend you be there early at the crack of dawn to experience the park and avoid tourist traffic. This one is worth getting up early for. Check for construction updates as some roads can be closed.

An amazing network of caverns. Call ahead and make a reservation. The tours are fantastic. We recommend you don't wear flip-flops and bring a jacket. The caves are a constant 50 degrees even in the heat of summer. It's a bit of a walk from the visitors center so walking shoes are the way to go.

Just under an hour away, right outside the town of Three Forks, you will find the Missouri Headwaters State Park. The site where Lewis and Clark stayed in 1805. This park encompasses the confluence of the Jefferson, Madison and Gallatin Rivers.

Cliff Lake
Cliff lake, the smaller cousin to Wade lake is just around the corner and worth a visit.
A short 20 minute drive from your stay at the White House in Ennis, just 12 miles south of Ennis off Varney Road is the Ennis National Fish Hatchery.

This is the largest facility in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Broodstock Program. It is one of only two rainbow trout broodstock hatcheries in the National Fish Hatchery System. The hatchery currently raises seven different strains of rainbow trout.
