A curious little place, but if you want a more formal meal with a home cooked vibe, this is a good place. You feel like you're going to someone's home, and you are! The food is good and well presented. The seafood we had was excellent. The ambiance.... well, it's like you are sitting on your neighbors screened in porch, or in their dining room! Note, only open during the summer season.

This is such a wonderful store. Right in the heart of Schroon Lake village. This summer (2023) it has new owners, we're excited to see what they bring to the store. It is a fun place to browse and sells all kinds of things from clothing to souvenirs.

This is a lovely afternoon walk from Birchwood. Accessed from the Loch Muller trail head about a half a mile walk from Birchwood (turn left onto Loch Muller road and walk past the end of the road). Immediately you pass the trail head take the unlabeled trail off to your left. It leads through the woods to an old logging road which leads to Baileys pond. The pond is about a mile from the trail head.

Our Favorite Moderate Hikes - no significant elevation gain
These hikes are not easy, but are fun and beautiful. Great if you would like an adventure but don't like to climb mountains.
This is in the Adirondack Mountain Reserve, in the summer months you need a reservation to park at the trailhead. It is a stunningly beautiful hike along the East Branch of the Ausable River.
There are many choices of trails, we like to make a circuit by taking the West River trail to the falls and the East River Trail back.
On Alltrails search Indian Head and Rainbow falls. This will take you to the trail head, we suggest you follow the red trail to the Sign-in-sheet, then turn right in front of the rangers cabin. You can pick up the West River Trail. The rangers are very helpful and will direct you.
Beaver Meadow Falls
This is in the Adirondack Mountain Reserve, in the summer months you need a reservation to park at the trailhead. It is a stunningly beautiful hike along the East Branch of the Ausable River.
There are many choices of trails, we like to make a circuit by taking the West River trail to the falls and the East River Trail back.

These hikes can mostly be done in a few hours, although they include elevation, (and the views that go with it) the trails are not too steep and do NOT involve difficult rock scrambling.
Close to Birchwood - and a fun climb for all ages. It's not short (5.5 miles) but if your family is up for it, it is a lovely trail with lots of views along the way.

Accessed from the Hoffman Road Big Pond trail head (about 5 miles from Birchwood) this is a lovely hike. The trail is unmarked but easy to follow. Great views of the local area. Round trip it's about 8 miles.
The Trail head is about 3 miles down Hoffman Road towards Schroon Lake, on your left. Follow the trail to Big Pond for about a mile, the trail to Jones Hill is a right turn off this trail at about the one mile mark.

This is a hike of the Nun-Da-Ga-O Ridge, it is a herd trail (unmarked) so we recommend downloading a trail map so you can use the gps signal to help you stay on track. The loop goes along a wonderful ridge that stretches from Big Crow to Weston Mountain, with many view points looking south to the High Peaks or West to WhiteFace. It is a moderately challenging trail, but worth the effort.
