restaurant has a great selection of small plate dishes, such as coconut lime chicken, and a range of pizzas exclusive to the King’s Cross branch of Caravan including the unconventional moos green pepperoni with burnt pepper, black olive and smoked scamorza. The fabulous food proves that there’s much more to Caravan than its iconic coffee, which is made fresh in the coffee roastery at Caravan’s first site, Exmouth Market.

Dishoom is about Indian street food, Dishoom pays homage to the Irani cafés and the food of all Bombay. Covent Garden, King's Cross, Shoreditch and St Martins Lane. I like it because it's quality food, reasonably priced without the fuss. Time Out says " Dishes on the feisty modern Indian menu are vividly described and peppered with brilliant asides and quirky facts. Spicy breakfasts and brunch throw a cracking curve-ball, too."

a lively boozer in Marylebone, London with crafty drinks and tasty food to mop it all up. A short walk from the flat, close to Marylebone station. The quintessential pub menu offers burgers, chicken, hot dogs, cross- hatch fries, sausage and mash, Pieminster and veggie pies and fish and chips. And a great gin and beer selection. Sir John Balcombe is a proper no-nonsense modern styled tavern with traditional pub grub; with the classic English boozer becoming an endangered species as more and more pubs are converted into restaurants and accommodation, what can be more comforting in these uncertain times than a trip to the pub!

Ishtar – Traditional Turkish Dining in Marylebone. Mediterranean, Turkish, Middle Eastern, Vegetarian Friendly, Vegan Options. A winning formula of fresh marinated meats, fish and vegetables skewered and grilled over hot charcoals in their Ocakbasi open kitchen. Think food theatre. Rustic dishes of tomato and olive with fresh baked breads and extensive mezze selection give way to smart white plates of modern and Turkish classics. I’m a big fan of this style of eating – you get the opportunity to try lots of things from the menu without having to pick a favourite and without overeating. We learnt that although this isn’t on the menu, if a guest is keen to try a mixture it’s quickly offered. We enjoyed a lovely grainy and soft Hummus, Kisir made with finely chopped mixed bell peppers, spring onion and cracked wheat, Patlican Soslu – sauteed aubergine in tomato sauce, Patlican Ezmesi – a smokey aubergine dip made by charring aubergines before cooking them and pureeing the mixture with garlic, yoghurt and tahini and Cacik (Turkish Tzatziki). All delicious, my favourite was the Patlican Ezmesi – I love that silky, smokey aubergine mixture.

It's a gastro-pub. A good eclectic choice of ales. Great Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding if that's your thing. Definitely a British institution. Also try a Nduja Scotch egg. For my starter, I chose the Jerusalem artichokes, Tunworth cheese, endive and hazelnuts, followed by the hake with plump cockles, courgette, crispy shallots and Monk’s Beard. Monk’s Beard it is a vegetable grown in Tuscany. Less salty than samphire, it complemented the hake rather than over-powering it. Also available are lots of pies ( we don't eat meat). For dessert, apple and pear crumble served with vanilla ice-cream. One of the best.

Bellanger is the Islington outpost of the Corbin & King Empire, owners of The Wolseley, Brasserie Zédel, Fischers (Marylebone - also highly recommended) overlooking the green. Bellanger feels to me like a delightful mix of The Delaunay (European old-school glitz pulled off with Manhattan chic) and the gloriously eccentric Fischer’s (schnitzel, würstchen and Viennese konditorei). Inspired by Alsatian brasseries of Paris’ past, it oozes French charm with a certain German feel in the mix. The long mirrored bar is surrounded by booths, banquettes and tables with an alfresco eating area at the front. I had yummy eggs Benedict. Great bread and a glass of Pinot. There were plenty more tempting options including eggs Portobello, eggs Arlington, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, croque Monsieur and croque Madame – (with a fried egg), chicken schnitzel sandwich, terrine of Dorset crab with avocado, tomato and sourdough and of course, the in-vogue avocado and poached egg. We don't eat meat, but other people seemed to be enjoying steak tartare and a sausage dish with sauerkraut. My partner had cheese and parsley-stuffed ravioli baked in a skillet with yet more cheese and parsley — ie, terrific fun, but nothing that will make zipping up one’s jeans easier. From a menu focused on the Alsatian roots of the brasserie, there are tartes flambées and choucroute, schnitzels and Strasbourg saucisses. It's all warming and gorgeous and to be best enjoyed while wearing an elasticated waist

Fischer’s, an Austrian-themed 'Viennese café’. There are schnitzels and fat, smoky sausages, sauerkraut and strudels. This is an elegant, expensively wrought, mock 1920s Austrian refreshment room. Amazing ambience. Make sure you book! I love the sweet mustard herring in a gravadlax-style sauce. For meat eaters...a veal schnitzel so huge it meanders off the plate. Or sausage and schnitzel heaven.

Westminster is considered the political hub of London and is home to the Houses of Parliament and the world-famous Big Ben. Big Ben is the name of the bell housed within the iconic clock tower, and it still chimes every hour. You can also find Westminster Abbey here, which is open to the public most days. Whilst visiting these landmarks, be sure to rest your feet in Parliament Square which features statues of important political individuals including Nelson Mandela and Winston Churchill.

Shoreditch is one of the trendiest areas of London having recently undergone extensive regeneration. It is now one of the hottest nightlife spots in the city. Packed full of bars and eateries, it’s the perfect place to spend a day and an evening. Check out Trapeze, a circus-themed bar that serves endlessly inventive drinks out of popcorn tub-style cups. For pop culture lovers, there’s Far Rockaway, a chilled bar and restaurant filled with comic books, band posters and a regular 90s night. Or visit the Blues Kitchen for a blues night accompanied by sticky ribs and other American staples. Also check out the Hoxton Hotel for a coffee and peek at London's next Internet megastar entrepreneur.

The Thames is the lifeblood of London, bringing industry to the city for centuries. It is England’s longest river, leading into the North Sea at its end. It has been the base for settlements since prehistoric times, and was a strategic importance to the Romans and English Kings, as well as during both World Wars. There are a several companies offering cruises across the Thames. Cruises run as regularly as every 30 minutes from several key locations. The cruises pass several key sightseeing locations, including Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, and the London Eye. Some cruises run at night so you can see the sights all lit up, whilst others are served with a meal or afternoon tea.

One of the cultural staples of London is Baker Street, best known as the street that Arthur Conan Doyle’s infamous detective Sherlock Holmes lived on. Today you can find a Sherlock Holmes museum near the Underground station, especially popular after the BBC revival ‘Sherlock’. Madame Tussauds is just around the corner, the internationally-famous wax museum where you can pose with your favorite celebrities. Afterwards, escape the crowds of Baker Street in the nearby Regent’s Park, or by climbing Primrose Hill for London’s most spectacular view of the city.

Camden is a well-known cultural area. Known for its alternative culture, the crowds here are filled with goths, punks, rockabillies and tourists alike. Camden has a vibrant community and you will find a number of piercing and tattoo shops in this part of town. Camden Market is eclectic and diverse: street food from international cuisines, lots of stalls selling trinkets and unique artwork to take home. Rummage through vintage clothing racks, find a used book to take on your travels, or visit one of the city’s best vegan bakeries at Cookies & Scream. After shopping, stroll down to Camden Lock to relax by Regent’s Canal, walk along the water to King's Cross or Regent's Park or London Zoo.

Hyde Park is possibly the most famous park in London, and it is one of the largest. The park has historical significance, having hosted a number of demonstrations and protests including protests by the Suffragettes. The park’s famous Speaker’s Corner is still occupied by debates, protests, and performance artists every week. T he park is home to several memorial features, as well as two bodies of water, the most famous being the Serpentine. Here you can go paddle-boating, see a number of swans, and take in a breath of fresh air in the centre of the city. A must-visit.
