If you’re short on time and have just one day to visit, start at the ranger station and get a map. You won’t want to miss the drive to the magnificent Boulder Field which can be viewed with minimal walking or from the parking area.
For a pretty hike along the water that will impress your friends, do the Shades of Death trail (not as hard as it sounds), which ends at a pretty waterfall over a spillway. If you continue further, there is a small pond above the dam. Wear closed toed shoes or hiking sandals, the trail is a bit rocky and has a ton of roots.
There are many other stunning hikes and you may find some ranger activities such as nature talks and bird watching. If you get the chance to looks for owls at night, this is a great state park activity that the rangers will occasionally lead. The kids love staying up after dark and searching through the dark woods.

The food here is great, if you come at meal time, plan to wait. Outdoor patio with firepit is a great place to hang out. Breakfast is equally as good as dinner.
