We love that Whale's Tooth is open year round, within walking distance, and the food is great! :) Check their website for latest hours and menus as they change frequently. Menu is mostly surf and turf, but includes vegetarian offerings (such as falafel grain bowl, caprese panini) and kid's menu (grilled cheese, chicken fingers, etc.). Wood-fired pizzas, house-bake breads and desserts, prepared foods, beer, wine, and gifts. We love their breakfast sandwiches, plus just a great shop to browse. ~10 min drive "inland" from the house. *Make sure you go early for breakfast sandwiches as they often sell out (as we've learned from personal experience more than once!), especially if you're looking for one on a homemade biscuit. :)

Great shopping, quaint downtown and beautiful walk along the ocean! Roughly ~30 minute drive South from Lincolnville. Owl's Neck, a short drive from Rockland, is amazing--beautiful walk/views and a lighthouse. You can also find “big box” stores in this area like Home Depot, Marshall’s, Dollar Tree, and Ocean State Job Lots.

Transportation

Great transportation option--including Midcoast Maine to/from Portland, Boston, & Logan Airport We've used Concord Coach for trips to/from Boston/Maine, and there is a stop conveniently located at the Lincolnville Post Office on Route 1 (less than a 5 minute walk from the house). Notes specific to the Lincolnville stop: This is a flag stop, which means the bus will slow down but not stop automatically: "Passenger must physically wave and acknowledge the bus." (My husband learned this the hard way...luckily he had bumped into his cousin during his wait for the bus and was able to bum a ride to a later stop!) Tickets aren't sold at the Lincolnville stop and must be purchased in advance online.

Uber and Lyft are not available in Lincolnville. In my search for alternate options, I came across Craft Delivery Service, which offers "a wide range of concierge services....from taxi service to grocery delivery and everything in between." While their website lists "closing" as 8pm Sun-Thurs/9pm Fri/Sat, I spoke with the company's owner (Sue), and she clarified they do accommodate later drop-off/pickup times for taxi service. Please feel free to call directly (207.542.0360) with any specific questions about arrangements and/or rates. We haven't used this service yet, but they get great reviews on google, and Sue was very friendly and helpful during our brief phone call!

Acadia is national treasure--hiking for all levels, rocky beaches/cliff walk, and a sand beach. Words aren't enough to elaborate; take a trip for yourself if your schedule allows! ~1.5-2 hour drive from Lincolnville, so doable as a day trip, but better if you're able to stay over a night in nearby Bar Harbor to truly enjoy the experience.

GPS: 186 Lighthouse Rd, Owls Head, ME 04854 Owl's Head Lighthouse is a hidden gem. I've traveled every summer to the Camden/Lincolnville area for the last 10+ years and only last year stumbled across this Lighthouse and park when my family was visiting from Indiana. Absolutely beautiful, and ~40 minute drive from Lincolnville. I'd recommend combining this with a trip to downtown Rockland, which is on the way there/back.

Must do during your trip—lovely breakwater and lighthouse in Rockland (on Samoset resort). Less than ~mile walk on the breakwater to lighthouse. We’ve done this in flip flops and with small children, but note there are some gaps between the stones and crashing waves during high tide that can be intimidating to some (but probably not most). That said, worth the visit even if to view from afar!

Great stop in Stockton Springs on your way to Acadia--bridge observatory (you take an elevator up; view is spectacular!) and historic fort/site to explore. There is a cute giftshop, and we've also randomly come across special events (i.e., "pirate day" for the kids) and guided tours when stopping in. My first visit to the Children's Chapel was in 2015 with my (now) husband, his grandfather and my parents in search of a wedding venue. While we ultimately exchanged vows in Portland, this place holds a special place in my heart between very fond memories of that day and trips since for enjoying the scenery and walking trails all seasons (with our last visit being Winter'21). More detail and directions from their website: "Between Rockport’s busy harbor and the fields of Aldermere Farms sits Vesper Hill Children’s Chapel. Vesper Hill Children’s Chapel is a non-denominational outdoor chapel. The chapel can seat 50 people and is a perfect location for special occasions such as weddings, baptisms, and memorials. But even in the absence of a big event, the Chapel is a great place to relax, to think, to meditate or pray, and to paint or draw, and it is open to the public for all of these things. The site that the Chapel enjoys used to be home to a hotel called Tamarack Lodge, which burned in 1954. The Chapel was built in 1960 by Helene Bok. Part of the stone foundation from the Tamarack has been incorporated into the gardens. Visitors enjoy a formal garden that features annuals and perennials, herbs, and a variety of trees. A spacious lawn provides great spots for picnicking. Vesper Hill Children's ChapelA dedication plaque in the chapel reads: This chapel is built to the memory of all young people who have passed through this world and gained God by so doing. It stands for freedom, thought, prayer, and action. It stands for holiness within the body, and for God in the heart each waking hour. May the Lord bless all young people who come here for spiritual and mental refreshment. – Helene Bok.. To reach the Chapel, take Russell Avenue out of downtown Rockport. Then turn right on Calderwood Lane. Go past Megunticook Golf Course. On your right, you’ll see a driveway marked by a boulder with the world “Vesper Hill” inscribed on it."

Very cute, reasonably priced giftshop in downtown Camden. Great variety of Maine "touristy stuff," in addition to nice selection of home accessories, jewelry and other misc. I honestly went to this shop 4 times during my last visit (late Jul'22)--lots for everyone to enjoy including souvenirs/local Maine (a decorative fish wall hanging for my sister and small wooden sailboat I picked up) and other items (magic tricks for my nephew, dainty jewelry for my niece, a stuffed moose for my son). Would highly recommend between selection, prices and service!

What can I say other than reiterating their slogan, "A Maine Adventure!" :) Reny's is a local "chain" founded in Maine. We frequent the Camden and Belfast locations often during our visits, in search of anything from reasonably priced seasonal items (Adirondack chairs, pool noodles, plastic buckets) to home essentials (clothespins, hangers, cleaning goods) to souvenirs (Maine sweatshirts/bags/mugs, salt water taffy, lobster-themed decor) to food/drink and shoes/clothing. We've often found identical items between Reny's and local giftshops (much lower-priced at Reny's--other shops to remain unnamed!) Highly recommend. :)
