Less than a mile away, there is a trail and a waterfall you can slide down into natural pools. Go left out of the driveway, and then left on to the main road (Williamsburg Rd). Look for the green "Trustees" sign less than a mile down. There is parking as well.

You can enter the back entrance to DAR State Forest by foot. Walk right out of the driveway up Ludwig Road, and take the dirt road straight ahead just as Ludwig turns right and becomes West Road. Walk up the dirt road and you will eventually reach Upper Highland Lake, where there are more trails, one leading to a small swimming beach. To launch boats or to drive in, you'll need to purchase a DCR Parking Permit on their website.

DAR State Forest

Walk right out of the driveway up Ludwig Road, and take the dirt road straight ahead just as Ludwig turns right and becomes West Road. Walk up the dirt road and you will eventually reach Upper Highland Lake, where there are more trails, one leading to a small swimming beach. To launch boats or to drive in, you'll need to purchase a DCR Parking Permit on their website.
