Essentials
The Highlands Shopping Center is right around the corner of our house (7 minutes walk or 2 minutes drive). It has a a wonderful super market with everything you need for a vacation, it comes along with a hot deli, a few restaurants, a snorkel rental place, a gas station and a bank etc... If you like more high end shopping, Queen’s, King’s Shops and Shops at Mauna Lani are within 10 minutes drive.

11 miles from my house, this is my favorite beach on the island. Very beautiful half moon shape with fine white sand, gorgeous view, and great snorkeling spots around the rocks.

10 miles away. Its the biggest white sand beach on the island, voted world most popular beaches. the restaurants inside the hotel next to it, also have good food, gorgeous view with the cascade pool.

Not easily accessible but it’s so beautiful. Drive from the entrance between Highway 19 mile marker 88 and 89, it needs a 4 wheels drive car for this path. Or you could drive to Kekaha Kai Beach (between marker 90 and 91) and walk 20-30 minutes north.

Highlight: Volcanically heated warm pond inside Ahalanui Park at Pahoa
You could combine the visit to this pond with your day trip from our house to Volcano park, aka visit the pond in the morning then Volcano in the afternoon and evening. This pond is 1 hour drive to Volcano, it’s a detour when you head from Hilo to Volcano though.
