Set on the disused Port of Brisbane wharf it is created entirely out of colourful shipping containers, each of which is a food outlet. It's two bucks to get in (kids are free) , there are multiple stages with live bands performing at all times, the music is always superb, I've never heard a lousy band yet, and the food is out-of-this world. Cuisine from all over the globe is on offer from burgers to bratwurst, crapes to cantonese. There is amazing, prepared and fresh, food from every continent and the oceans in between. Kids love it, there's also quite a few bars serving wine, beer and spirits. GO HERE

And the Sub Station is a cool little Rum Bar with hundreds of different Rums from all over the world (try them all if you dare! ;)). This is a cool local bar / restaurant with good food. Very stylish fit-out. Good service, laid back atmosphere. Kid friendly, although they might get a bit bored here so pack your iPad.

This is a nice spot for a picnic or a BBQ. The waterhole is beautiful and it's teaming with fish and wild turtles that swim right up to you as well as water fowl and other bird life. There's a few walking trails and you can even find an original 'kippa ring' hidden in the forest here which is a sacred aboriginal initiation circle that was created by the local aboriginals who inhabited this part of Brisbane. It has been preserved and is quite amazing to see. It is integrated with the wetlands bikeway network which you can join onto from Toombul (it's a relatively flat, comfortable ride, all the way here with only one small stretch of road to ride on.

Great little riverfront park in Hamilton. Lots of lawn, picnic facilities, toilets and a sandy river-side beach (no good for swimming due to sharks and rips, but nice for viewing).

Southbank is the old Expo site restored into a stunning river-side park complete with artificial beach, restaurants galore and views to die for. Get there by train, citycat, or uber.
