Whakanewha offers sheltered swimming on a long, sweeping beach with a panoramic bush clad backdrop. It's well worth making your way to for its lush coastal forest, cascading streams and sweeping beach. Walks in the park take up to 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete.

75 Gordons RdWhakanewha offers sheltered swimming on a long, sweeping beach with a panoramic bush clad backdrop. It's well worth making your way to for its lush coastal forest, cascading streams and sweeping beach. Walks in the park take up to 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
The internal loop track system - starting and finishing at the same gate - takes a leisurely 2 hours to complete and traverses all the major vegetation types within the reserve. Some sections of the track are steep and can be slippery when wet. You are advised to wear suitable heavy footwear. Meet kereru, grey warbler, fantail, kingfisher, kaka and tui birds.
Onetangi Reserve Trig Hill Rd Gate
109 Trig Hill RdThe internal loop track system - starting and finishing at the same gate - takes a leisurely 2 hours to complete and traverses all the major vegetation types within the reserve. Some sections of the track are steep and can be slippery when wet. You are advised to wear suitable heavy footwear. Meet kereru, grey warbler, fantail, kingfisher, kaka and tui birds.
This 3-hour loop starts by following the path to the southern end of Matiatia Bay. Cross the footbridge and follow the track uphill to a lookout. You’ll then follow a coastal track on Te Miro Bay and Church Bay. To complete the loop, follow Church Bay Road all the way to Alison Park where you can either access Oneroa Beach or return to Matiatia Bay via Ocean View Road or the Atawhai Whenua Reserve pathway.
Church Bay Road
Church Bay RoadThis 3-hour loop starts by following the path to the southern end of Matiatia Bay. Cross the footbridge and follow the track uphill to a lookout. You’ll then follow a coastal track on Te Miro Bay and Church Bay. From the beach, return to Matiatia Bay via Korora Road to Alison Park then via Ocean View Road or the Atawhai Whenua Reserve. This walk takes 2-3 hours.

Matiatia Wharf station

To complete the loop, take the track to Newton Road, then Queens Drive to Goodwin Avenue which leads back to Little Oneroa.
