This requires quite a walk (about 4,5 km from home) or you take the S-Bahn one station into town (Schlachtensee) and walk a quarter around the lake (against clockwise) - lovely location, they also have a Biergarten, but the actual restaurant is very pricy but worth a visit.

Typical Biergarten, overpriced and not the best food, but great location with view over the gorgeous Wannsee - worth a visit if you like beer and the weather is nice.

Very nice little café with the best croissants I managed to find in Berlin - sometimes you have to call in before to reserve as they are high in demand, especially on Sundays.

For me the most beautiful lake (I grew up here...), you can walk or jog around, and the water is lovely to swim between April and November (some people swim there year around) - a must see! You can even rent rowing boats for a romantic afternoon :) And yes, it has tiny beaches but you have to look for them...

Public beach from 1905, renovated couple of years ago, quite an experience, especially if you have little kids. But be aware - during weekends and holidays this is completely crowded with the Berliners who didn't manage to fly away...

This incredible place is open 24 hours, very cool - the closest to our apartment as it takes only 14 minutes by train into town. You can have any meal of the day and drinks, and it's very groovy.

The Paris Bar is an institution in former West-Berlin, at times you could meet there politicians, actors, musicians and people from all back-grounds enjoying a nice meal or even better drinks in a pretty cool location.

To train lines: the S1 goes through Zehlendorf, Steglitz and Schöneberg directly to Potsdamer Platz (28 min of travel time) and the S7 which brings you within 12 minutes to Charlottenburg, 14 minutes to the very trendy „Savigny-Platz“ with lots of cool cafes and restaurants - the former center of West-Berlin, with the famous „Kudamm“ within walking distance; within 22 minutes you are at Hauptbahnhof (Berlin main station) and couple of more minutes at Friedrichstrasse and Alexanderplatz, the „real“ center of Berlin today.

A discount supermarket 200 m from the apartment which fulfills your every day’s normal wishes, the selection of fruits and veggies is ok, some bio produce, but if you want real quality, there are better supermarkets, just not within walking distance.

For me the greatest concert hall in the world - well, I grew up there, my father played for 45 years in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, maybe the greatest orchestra today (and back then as well). Great acoustics and just a fabulous building, next to Potsdamer Platz, worth a visit for sure!
