It's a short walk to the river from the unit, and a lap around Prince's island is great. Stop in at the River Cafe to warm up if it's chilly.

This is my favourite hike close to Calgary - my #1 'Here for a good time, not a long time' thing to do. Intermediate/difficult hike, but more than half of it is at altitude with great views of the Rockies all around!

This is a very photogenic lake. Almost 3 hours drive from the unit. On a road trip day, we'll hit Peyto lake for some epic shots, and then a few stops on the way back (Lake Louise, Bow River Falls, dinner in Canmore). Light on activity, heavy on epic views.

This is a very photogenic lake. Almost 3 hours drive from the unit. On a road trip day, we'll hit Peyto lake for some epic shots, and then a few stops on the way back (Lake Louise, Bow River Falls, dinner in Canmore). Light on activity, heavy on epic views.
7 waterfalls and one cool hiking trail - in many cases on along a boardwalk attached to the side of a rock face. This is a bit of a tourist trap and access is often closed if you're not very early. Same is true for Emerald and Moraine Lake. Pretty easy hike - if the sky is clear, and you're up for the extra distance, keep going to the Ink Pots - beautiful valley plateau. During the summer, 'Floating the Bow' is a very enjoyable thing to do. Grab a group of friends, take a Car 2 Go to the Paddle Station location and float through downtown Calgary, then grab an Uber or Car 2 Go from St. Patrick's Island and on to your next adventure.
