For a quieter, slightly more aloof cafe, try cafe grumpy. No food though, just small pastries. Small outdoor patio in the back as well.

Great views of jersey city going south, and a walkway for running or biking as far north and south as you want. Walk west on 18th street straight over to the rivere and go either left or right.

Chelsea market is a must see while you're in the neighborhood. Make sure to try the tacos. Good for shopping as well, there is a veggie market, a meat market, a bread shop, a milk shop, it's all separated out like they do in Europe. Try the gelato at the end of the hall, you won't be sorry.
