All the bakeries in Chamonix offer a mouth-watering selection of cakes and pastries but Aux Petits Gourmands is perhaps the most decadent of the lot - their window displays alone are to die for and their chocolate creations make excellent gifts. There is another branch, Chalet 1810, at 191 rue Joseph Valot near the big SuperU.

For spectacular views of the Mont Blanc, take the cable car to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi at 3842m. This high mountain site offers a unique 360° panorama of the majestic Mont Blanc range and its summit. You can ‘Step into the Void’ a glass room with a glass floor with over 1000 feet of emptiness beneath you. Quite often you will be able to spot a rope party on their way to climb this prestigious mountain. A word of warning, temperatures will be very low up there so do wear your ski gear.

There are hiking paths to Lac Blanc, and Les Chéserys lakes in the Aiguilles Rouges, a natural conservation area. In Winter you can use the same lifts and connect back to Le Brevent.
