Excellent pies and a great selection of real ale and wines. Really cosy, friendly pub with a great atmosphere and tasty local food. Right in the hubbub of Chesterfield's historic market place.

The ice-cream here is really good. Lots of variety and all locally made. Can't comment on the coffee or any of the other food, but the ice-cream is worth a shout on a hot day. Or any day really.

Gorgeous, cosy little tea room. Come here for afternoon tea. Their cake and tea are delicious. Coffee here is also good. The cafe itself is attached to the H&F furniture shop, which is also fun to look around as everything there is hand-made to order.

This building houses a gorgeous antiques shop on two floors (as well as outside). And nestled in the back is a really lovely little tea room which is perfect for breakfasts, lunches and tea and cake. They do a cake 'tapas' (which is really just 6 full-sized portions of cake!) - a big hit with my husband. Their selection of loose-leaf teas is really good and some unusual ones in there. The Early Grey is one of my favourites and my favourite lunch item is the Derbyshire Oatcake with tuna and cheese. Oatcakes are a local speciality and must be tried while in the area!

This place is a little on the fancy side, but really good for a treat. The food is very high quality and all locally sourced and seasonal. This is a sit-down a la carte restaurant inside Chesterfield's 4 star Casa Hotel. Perfect if you want a romantic night out. We've been here for Valentine's Day and our Anniversary before.

Tiny little place nestled in a little cobbled square of shops and cafes down a little cobbled path from the town centre. Tasty, home cooked organic food. One of the first places Adam and I ate when we were checking Chesterfield out as a place to live.

Nice little vegetarian cafe in the heart of Chesterfield. You have to do some exploring down the many narrow pavements that connects the mini maze of Chesterfield town centre. The food in here is healthy, whole and 100% vegetarian. Very popular spot.

The food in here is good quality. They specialise in steak (obvs) and fish. Wine is good, food is good. The servers are quite young and not quite as polished as you might expect, so the full experience can be a bit hit and miss depending on who you get.

You would never go in this place if you were just walking past. It's huge, it's nearly always empty and the decor doesn't look like it's been updated in a few decades. In fact, Adam and I went in here as a last resort when we were exploring one night and nowhere else had space. We were starving and just figured anything would do. The food was actually really good though. Tastes like authentic Thai food, really reasonable price and we went back a couple of times after. It's a little bit of a walk from our house, but worth it if you're staying for a few days and fancy something a bit different.

Sightseeing

Home to Chesterfield's iconic crooked spire. This beautiful mistake is visible from all high points in Chesterfield but nothing beats seeing it close up. The great thing is that it's right in the centre of town so it's convenient for grabbing a coffee or some lunch after you've been.

Drinks & Nightlife

Einstein's is one of our favourites. Bavarian beer house. Great, lively atmosphere every day of the week. Fairly hipster crowd (for Chesterfield!). Lots of beers on tap and in bottles, including an alcohol-free Erdinger! They also serve food, which is German-themed.

One of those classic Olde English real ale pubs with hops hanging from the ceiling and plenty of guest beers on draft. This place has an amazingly cosy atmosphere. They sometimes have live music on. It's a bit of a walk from ours, but if you're already in town and don't mind a bit of a detour, it's worth checking out. To grab yourself a quiet spot, venture to the back of the pub where there's a whole secret room with dim lighting and a whole other range of ales to choose from.

This is a really nice, trendy cocktail bar on the ground floor of Chesterfield's 4 star Casa Hotel. As well as cocktails, they also serve tapas-style dishes from the bar, which has all the quality of the a la carte restaurant upstairs but with a much more casual feel and a lower price.

Always a good guest wine in here. The drinks are more expensive than you'll find in other places in Chesterfield, but it's a bit hidden out of the way so it's usually fairly quiet. Sometimes on a Friday they'll have live acoustic music. I've enjoyed their British tapas and platter menu a few times, but the steak is mediocre.
