Not a bar, but a fun place to go for a taste. Heritage Distilling has become THE iconic distilling company in the pacific northwest. Their recently opened Roslyn location is a treat. You can taste a flight of whiskies, or you can order a couple of craft mini cocktails. It's a fun place to visit with friends. I love their bloody mary with bacon infused vodka!

New to Cle Elum, the Orchard restaurant has a wonderful local chef who has made us some delicious and unexpected treats. Excellent cocktails and a nice wine list. Very reasonably priced, the Orchard is a treat to find in Cle Elum

A beautiful winery and restaurant in Suncadia, Swiftwater makes lovely wines as well as cocktails (try the blackberry manhattan!). Their food is delicious. We love their calamari, their chopped salad and their steelhead. All are special treats made unlike anywhere else. It's fun to drive up for dinner, or go in the afternoon for wine on the patio.

OK...I guess I wouldn't call this "Food Scene" but it's super close to you, their burgers and fries are awesome (My husband loves the chicken strips - we always order half tater tots/half fries with a side of ranch), and they make great drinks. Have one of the Roslyn Brewery beers for a local treat.

The best breakfasts outside of our kitchen. We love love their homemade corned beef hash. Their omelets are also amazing, and huge. The bacon and cheese I swear has 10 pieces of bacon in it. Bloody mary's are also deluxe!

A delicious little coffee shop that also sells maps and books. Downstairs, almost as if it's a speakeasy, is one of our favorite haunts. You can sit in the cozy leather chairs or sofa and have one of their craft cocktails. Their quinoa salad is delicious, as are their burgers. A few fancier meal options are always available, and often made with local ingredients.

Famous for their beef jerkey, Owens is a butcher shop to beat all others. This little place, recently expanded, has been an Owens family business for over 100 years. Their quality meats are unrivaled. We love their jalepeno summer sausage, their landjaeger (if you haven't tried it, you must!). Their marinated flank steaks and chicken breasts are a treat, and their rib eye and new york cuts cannot be beat. They also sell delicious canned foods. We love their salsas and the Schmiggity sauce!

Cascade Playtime is just a little over a mile down the road from our cabin. They rent jet skiis and pontoon boats in the summer, snowmobiles in the winter.

Set in an old funeral home the Roslyn Theatre is an experience! A tiny venue, incredible popcorn, and top movies. Call early and ask to reserve your seat in the "loge" - upstairs. A favorite place to go on a rainy day.

Parks & Nature

a block from your guesthouse is our lake. in the early 1900's, the salmon le sac river was dammed, and the area nearby was flooded. in the early summer months, the lake is at its highest, often leaving no beach to speak of. as the summer progresses, and the water is released through the dam to irrigate crops in the yakima valley (vineyards, orchards, hops, and other crops that thrive in this high desert region), the lake level drops significantly, at time so low that you can see the old rock foundations and chimneys of homes that were vacated for the creation of the lake and dam. You can drive your 4WD on the beach, but do be careful to stay on hard packed sand.

Drive up highway 903, away from town. Our lake, Lake Cle Elum will be on your left, which will eventually become a river. Anywhere along the river is beautiful, but you can also turn into the Cooper lake area a few miles up ahead. Take a left into the cooper lake area, cross the river (photo opp!) and you'll drive up a logging road quite a ways (15 minutes). Follow signs to Cooper lake (on your right). You'll cross over a beautiful 1 lane bridge and come to a parking area. People take kayaks up there. If the weather is nice, we like to bring our backpack chairs and a picnic lunch/bottle of wine. We have left 2 chairs out for you but have more if you need them.

Another beautiful spot is at the end of the road at salmon le sac. There are several hiking areas in and around salmon le sac. The area around the river alone is gorgeous, but for a more adventurous day, you can drive across the 1 lane bridge and take the gravel road to your right, following that road for 10 minutes to a parking area (you will need a parks pass or can pay on site for a day pass - it was $7 last time we were there). There are a few hikes from this spot. Our favorite is to head straight, with the river on your left. You can actually make a full loop, but that is over 11 miles, so we typically hike an hour or so, and turn around. In the spring, streams flow.

If you’re really up for adventure, and are willing to head out early, Fish Lake is an hour or so walk on what is the start of the Tuck&Robin hike (that’s an overnight hike). After following Highway 903 almost all the way toward salmon le sac, you’ll find a road up a hill on your right. take that and follow it to the trailhead, easily a 20+minute drive up an old logging road. you’ll pass by some cabins that are totally off the grid, and over a creek (this is not a drive for a compact car). At the end of the road is the trailhead. You will need a state park pass - you can purchase one at the trailhead but will need cash to do so. Follow the signs to fish lake, a great spot for a picnic.

The “5 mile hike/walk” that we take nearly every day we are there is right out of our backyard. Go right out of our driveway and take a right at the end of the road - this is the dam road (there’s a dam at the end). About a block down the road you will come to a dirt road on the left. Take this trail to a Y and keep left. Then stay to the right up a narrow hill trail. You will get to the “ridge” overlooking the river. Continue on this trail through fields of wildflowers. You can continue on this trail to a road/across a road and literally 2.5 miles to where it turns around. You really cannot get lost...the river will always be to the south, and you’ll eventually end up on the dam road.

If you plan to grocery shop, I recommend you do so before Friday night, especially on holiday or high traffic weekends. This store is notoriously busy, and often runs out of produce.
