It's tiny but the menu is astonishingly large and every dish I've tried there has been delightful. You can sit outside by the river on a nice day and the cafe is dog friendly.

At the northern end of Aberystwyth promenade, Constitution Hill rises dramatically from the sea, providing spectacular and uninterrupted views of the town, Cardigan Bay, and on a clear day 26 mountain peaks spanning much of the length of Wales. The most relaxing way to enjoy this majestic panorama is to travel by train on the longest funicular electric cliff railway in Britain, which has been transporting visitors to the summit since opening in 1896. The recently refurbished summit train station has just been completed, providing much better protection from the elements and updating the structure to ensure a better visitor experience.

Travelling on the Vale of Rheidol Railway is the finest way to see the stunning Rheidol Valley. We pass through wide open fields, woodland and rugged mountain scenery as the line twists and turns clinging to the hillside gradually climbing nearly 700ft (200m)from Aberystwyth to reach our destination at Devil’s Bridge. Birds of prey such as Red Kite and Buzzards are regularly seen soaring high above the valley floor and breathtaking views can be enjoyed by all.

There is much to captivate at this evocative, historically important site Strata Florida quickly became not only a site of huge religious significance in Wales but also a natural home for Welsh culture. Dafydd ap Gwilym, one of the best known of Wales’s medieval poets, is buried here under a yew tree. You only need admire the majesty of the huge carved west doorway to appreciate how impressive this building must once have been. The plan of the church can still be clearly traced and, rather remarkably, some of the original richly decorated tiles from the abbey are still intact. One of them, ‘Man with the Mirror’, depicts a medieval gentleman admiring himself in a mirror!

Located in the western Cambrian mountains of Mid Wales approximately 11 miles from Aberystwyth on the A44, the Silver Mountain Experience was originally a silver-rich lead ore mine primarily from the 19th Century. By 1973 the Llywernog Mine was derelict. Since then, the current owner, after years of careful restoration, brought back this amazing example of Welsh mining heritage where the underground tunnels, once dark and forgotten, could then safely be explored. There is the original old mine “count house”, other buildings connected with the ore dressing process, plus many ancient photographs, tools, equipment and mining documents from the industry displayed in the museum. Also above ground

Soar-y-mynydd or Soar y mynydd is a Calvinist Methodist chapel near the eastern extremity of the large parish of Llanddewi Brefi, Ceredigion. Its often-repeated claim to fame is that it is the remotest chapel in all Wales (“capel mwyaf pellennig/anghysbell Cymru gyfan”). Its name is Welsh for ‘Zoar of the mountain’. Zoar or its Welsh equivalent Soar is a not uncommon chapel name in Wales which derives from the mention in Genesis 19:20–30 of the place which served as a sanctuary for Lot and his daughters and which was spared by God when the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed.

Yes, it's a bog but there are boardwalks and an amazing hide, it's a lovely walk on nice day, if you go quietly you may see basking lizards and newts as well as dragon flies and all manner of insect life as well as some tiny bog plants that you really need to look carefully for.

A nice sandy beach - there's a second beach that you can sometimes walk around the cliff to get to but when the tide is in you'll need to use the steps to get back - be careful, if you are not able to walk far or manage a lot of steps then make sure you have the tide timetable or ask a local. There's chips, ice-cream and a beach supply shops here too. It can be very busy here on warm weekends an holiday season and there’s only one car park that can fill up very quickly, best to visit here when everyone else is at work or school.

There are three town beaches in New Quay, Harbour Beach, Traeth Gwyn and Dolau. Harbour Beach is patrolled by Ceredigion Council lifeguards during the main summer holiday, from mid-July to the end of August. New Quay harbour is sheltered and provides a safe haven for pleasure craft and a few fishing boats. Dolphins can often be seen in this area and there are several boats offering trips out to the bay. There's limited parking close to the beach for a small fee. More spacious parking is available further into the town and up the hill. You can walk south along the Ceredigion Coastal path to the secluded natural harbour.

The coast village of Aberporth bustles with activity in the summer. It has the advantage of two sandy sheltered beaches with rock pools exposed at low tide making it ideal for family holidays. There is a small car park above the south section of the beach. Further parking can be found in the village. Swimming is considered safe here and during the school holidays - from mid July to the end of August - Ceredigion Beach Officer Lifeguard Service normally establishes patrolled bathing areas daily.

It's a great place for a day out, there’s so much here that you’ll wish you could stay for a week. The great glasshouse is enormous and covers several climate zones with well establish plants from all around the world. There’s a café in the glasshouse but if you want a proper meal visit the restaurant in the courtyard. There’s lots of things outside and inside so no matter what the weather is like you’ll have a great day out. They also have ‘doggie days’ when you can bring your canine friends in with you.

This National Trust property is an elegant Georgian villa, set in the wooded Aeron Valley. Remarkably unaltered for over 200 years, this self-sufficient estate includes a farm, walled gardens and lake. Any time of year is great for visiting Llanerchaeron – in spring, flowers carpet the woods; in summer, the estate is full of song and colour. Autumn brings beautiful colours to the woods, while winter sees early birds nesting in unusual places. Built in the late 18th century the walled gardens at Llanerchaeron have been producing fruit and vegetables for over 200 years. Originally a high tech hive of Georgian industry the gardens have a much more romantic and dreamy feeling about them today.

This unique farm park is stunningly located on a scenic headland, overlooking the nature reserve of Cardigan Island, which is just 200 yards off-shore, so it can be clearly viewed from the park. Cardigan Island is home to thousands of nesting sea-birds, so access has to be restricted. It also has a flock of wild Soay sheep, originally from the isle of Soay, south of Skye, Scotland. A colony of Atlantic grey seals breed in the many caves below the farm park cliffs and can be seen virtually every day. Cardigan Bay's bottlenose dolphins are frequent visitors to the waters surrounding the park, particularly during calm weather, when they swim closer to the shore.

Hafod Uchtryd, 12 miles south-east of Aberystwyth, is recognised as one of the finest examples in Europe of a Picturesque landscape. Its most celebrated owner, Thomas Johnes (1748-1816), built a new house in this remote location and laid out its grounds in a manner suited to displaying its natural beauties in sympathy with the 'Picturesque principles' fashionable at the time, with circuit walks allowing the visitor to enjoy a succession of views and experiences. Johnes also used the land for farming, forestry, and gardening, in each case trying out new ideas and experimental methods. Hafod became an essential destination for the early tourist in Wales.

This place is amazing - I only knew about it because Gay Acres was my physiotherapist, it really is a garden with something for everyone, yet without compromise. There is a huge range of plants for the plants people, with plenty of interest at every time of year, there is inspiration for both experienced and novice gardeners, and peace and tranquillity for the stressed. It is an adventure and fantasy garden for the children, it's a sculpture park, a water garden, a wildlife garden and a garden of peace and tranquility. All the sculptures are by Gay herself - truly a woman oƒ many talents. They even built a CAVE - yep, a cave.

The Library is situated in Aberystwyth, on the Ceredigion coast, and must have one of the best views of any Library in the world, looking out over Cardigan Bay.  The National Library of Wales' purpose is to make our culture and heritage accessible to all to learn, research and enjoy. It is a legal deposit library, which means they have the right to a copy of every publication printed in Britain and Ireland. There's surprisingly lots of things to do and see here and it's very close to Aberystwyth Arts Centre

It is a legal deposit library, which means they have the right to a copy of every publication printed in Britain and Ireland. There's surprisingly lots of things to do and see here and it's very close to Aberystwyth Arts Centre

Another very local attraction, just turn left and keep walking until you get to the top of the hill and you'll see Jane's 'Ty Zinc' (tin shed). Jane Beck at Welsh Blankets has an extensive knowledge of the Welsh Woollen Industry for Welsh Blankets & Welsh Quilts, living on the borders of Ceredigion & Carmarthenshire, an area well known for its commercialisation of the Wool Trade.

Helen Elliott is one of Ceredigion's best known and over artists, but there are plenty more out there - the Ceredigion Art Trail allows you to put together your own personalised art ramble, choose what you like, download it to your mobile device and off you go. It's so much better than those once a year art trails. https://ceredigionarttrail.org.uk

Way back in 1992 John Savage-Onstwedder, one of the founders of the renowned Teifi Farmhouse Cheese and an organic farmer, commissioned the world famous Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland to produce the world’s first organic whisky of the modern era to commemorate the eagerly anticipated new millennium. Dà Mhìle (pronounced da-vee-lay) is Gaelic for 2000. Springbank made 15 hogsheads (barrels) out of the 11 tonnes of organic barley John delivered to the distillery, of these 15 hogsheads five remain. They celebrated their 23nd birthday in the summer of 2015 and are now highly sought after by collectors. Tours on Wednesday and Friday by Appointment only: http://www.damhile.co.uk
