If you'd actually like to sunbathe or get in the water, I'd recommend this beach over Venice and Santa Monica. Manhattan Beach is a bit nicer and the environment is a little less touristy.

If you have the transportation and the time, Malibu by far, has the most gorgeous beaches in all of Los Angeles. If planning to do Malibu, leave early! I'd say you want to be there no later than 11AM and bring your snacks/drinks with you to spend the entire day there. Once you are in Malibu, you are IN Malibu so it will be difficult to leave anytime during rush hour or popular weekend days.

Hollywood has it all. The Hollywood Walk of Fame, The Hollywood Sign, the Sunset Strip, along with tons of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. There are too many spots to name so if you want more information, please let me know. I lived in Hollywood for several years before moving here so I can definitely recommend specific places to go!
