Casual and very local, some of the best authentic island food on offer. We stop here as soon as we get off the plane, buy a beautiful Lilikoi Pie to take to our condo for the week... it can get crowded during peak lunch/dinner hours, but be patient and space will open up for your group. Friendly, local, delicious, quick, high quality food. Don't miss Hamura!!

Kalaheo is a lovely little town about twenty minutes' drive from Poipu/Koloa. We always try to time things for a stop at this nice coffee shop - very hip and current and healthy, with a varied menu that accommodates every food preference.

We stop here after arrival with our shopping list for the week, returning every day or two for something delicious. A small rack in the product dept is stocked with wonderful island snacks (cone sushi, spam omusubi, kalua pig and other prepared dishes, wrapped for your picnic) but you'll need to get there early - these sell out by Noon usually!! When I feel lazy, I stop at the small snack shop (connected, in the parking lot) for several big balls of steamed white rice - add a salad and a side of kalua pig and dinner's ready! They stock beautiful produce, local fish and meats, and all essentials you might need. Check their souvenir aisle also...

If you have any interest at all in the unique flora of the Hawaiian Islands, stop in to visit this lovely garden. If you have time, take the tour - very much worth it.

Amenities include restrooms, showers, and some spacious covered pavilions. We go at least once each time we visit - it has become our sacred place... we are often the only folks on the beach - it's serene and beautiful.
Bring sunscreen, lots of drinks, mats and umbrella - this is almost the dry-est corner of the island, and it can get quite hot.

Just down the road from Poipu Point resort, a bit past the CJM Country Horseback Stables (also great fun) if you continue along the bumpy road, bearing always ocean-ward, you'll come to parking at the end of the road, with paths leading to gorgeous beaches. Some are calm and protected, others treacherous. If you're lucky, you'll come across lots of windsurfers in this area - fun to watch.

One year husband hired a fishing outfit to go out fishing here - great fun! Just Google "fishing Waita Reservoir Kauai" - there are several operators.

Take a lovely drive to the North Side of Kauai, thru Hanalei's charming one-lane bridges, Lumahai Beach, ("BaliHai") and beyond, past the Moaning Caves and to the end of the road.
There you can sign in and walk a (muddy but scenic) trail for two miles to reach gorgeous Hanakapiai Beach, which is unreachable except by foot or by boat. Do some online research on hiking this side of the island, and come prepared with sunscreen, water, and snacks. Rugged, but totally worth it for adventurous types!

If you have decided to shell out for an aerial tour of The Garden Isle, I say: EXCELLENT CHOICE!!
We have flown several times with Inter-Island and recommend them above all others. Because of their side work in search and rescue (lost hikers), they have removed the doors from their aircraft -- you are safely belted in, don't worry, but the ride is absolutely exhilarating! Whether you take the short tour, or the longer tour that stops for picnic and a swim in private lagoon, you'll love Inter-Island. Go for it!

The big cruise ships come into Nawiliwili harbor - there are lots of shops, etc. We rented motor scooters from a company here, and had a great day scooting around. The larger hotels nearby have networks of small pathways that are great for scooting around (no traffic)- try the

It will take about an hour to reach the very top, for a breathtaking view of the Kalalau Valley and the sea beyond. We've done this tour twice through Outfitters Kauai at the Kukuiula Store location (look for the yellow submarine) - the ride requires very little effort, as you spend most of the time coasting downhill, from the heights of Waimea Canyon down to the Coast. The Outfitter van drives you up the mountain to the highest point, where you don your helmet and mount your bike. A lovely, peaceful way to breeze down the mountainside, taking in the stunning views of Kauai coastline. Great fun for all ages!
ZIPLINING
We have also gone zip lining twice with this company - they do a fantastic job - for all ages and fitness levels!!

Even if you don't golf, this beautiful municipal park is worth a visit just to walk around to enjoy the landscaping, statues, and the stunning vistas. Best place for barefoot golfing!!
