Origami is the prettiest looking ice cream shop along the Tulum beach strip, and serves delicious artisanal Italian gelato! Don't miss Caribbean flavors like coconut, hibiscus, passion fruit, and cinnamon. Relax in their bean bag chairs while you cool down.

Safari is located 8 kilometers down the road called Tulum-Boca Paila, on the jungle side opposite of Hotel Cabaña Los Lirios Tulum. The place is easily recognizable by the vintage 1971 silver Airstream travel trailer parked in the yard, which functions as a kitchen.

MANZANA 26 Aldea ZamaSafari is a simple outdoors restaurant for tacos. They specialize in fish tacos, and that is indeed what you should order. Safari is located 8 kilometers down the road called Tulum-Boca Paila, on the jungle side opposite of Hotel Cabaña Los Lirios Tulum. Restaurare is one of the best restaurants in Tulum, and it's 100% vegan! Located along the beach strip as one of the first stops after you've past Azulik, this jungle restaurant has excellent cocktails and seriously good tacos. Don't miss the coconut ceviche!

Kitchen Table is a simple jungle kitchen, where the cooking is done in part over an open fire. Guests can watch the chefs work as they prepare the food. Most dishes are served on rustic wooden boards. The hospitality and service is great.

The specialty is cochinita pibil (pork seasoned with sour oranges and achiote) served with pickled red onions, and the restaurant is open until they sell out. This is a spot for locals, with plastic lawn furniture and even plates wrapped in plastic bags. Condiments are already on the table when you sit down.

The specialty is cochinita pibil (pork seasoned with sour oranges and achiote) served with pickled red onions, and the restaurant is open until they sell out. This is a spot for locals, with plastic lawn furniture and even plates wrapped in plastic bags. Condiments are already on the table when you sit down.

You can watch the tortillas being made by the dad and son in the back of the store, while mom handles customers in the front.

Condiments are found in the middle of the restaurant, for everyone to help themselves. Don't miss the lovely aguas frescas!
Just across the road from Antojitos La Chiapaneca you find El Carboncito. Here, you can get tacos al pastor as well, but what you really want is the chorizo tacos. A series of jungle huts with different standards of quality, from simpler to more exclusive, are beautifully located by the beach. Pass by one day to the beach club. Great food and drinks and a cool vibe.

Not on the beach itself, Batey lives in a cool little enclave of restaurants and bars, hidden off the pretty main strip. Adorned with colourful flags, chic black and white photography and an artist in residence, (pictured with me and Liv above) creating live paintings in the back yard. The music can be anything from jazz, electro to live mariachi bands. I loved this place for it’s art house, Mexican atmosphere and the magnificent mojitos!

If you are to see on pyramid during your stay at Casa Yaxiik, the Coba Pyramids is a good option. Easy access from Tulum, just about 45 min drive.
The Maya ruins at Cobá are unique in that only a few of its estimated 6,500 structures have been uncovered, but the ones that have been are graceful and impressive.
On these quiet and peaceful grounds it´s hard to imagine that Cobá may have once had the largest population of all the ancient Mayan cities. This vast Mayan archeological site dates from 600-900 A.D. and there were an estimated 100,000 people living in its domain. It was the heart of a large metropolis composed of many cities within the eastern Yucatan.
