Believe it or not, but we have found that Intermarche's cafe has the tastiest pastel de natas and delicious coffee. A short walk from the Duplex and a welcome break after doing a food shop.

If you have a sweet tooth then this is your bakery! It has a cafe as well, but it can be noisy with the street traffic. Try the traditional pastel de natas.

Highly recommended. The perfect spot for people watching in a beautiful square with a canal. Plenty of seating. Take a book, pretend to read it and watch the world go by. We find it isn't the best coffee or food in the world, but the square makes up for it.

Shopping
A huge shopping mall located in Viseu. They have a top floor open eating area with beautiful views of the Estrela Mountains. Cinema with the latest movies, ice skating rink, swimming pool, an arcade, restaurants, cafes, clothing shops, furniture, electronics, book shops, etc. We enjoy shopping in A Loja do Gato Preto (Black Cat). Jumbos is their large supermarket. Busy at weekends but quiet during the week. Perfect day out if it's raining, but there won't be many of those days during the summer!

A huge shopping mall located in Viseu. They have a top floor open eating area with beautiful views of the Estrela Mountains. Parks & Nature
There is a ski slope on top, which is popular during the winter, and several shops. We recommend
visiting the scenic village of Manteigas for hiking. Enquire in Tourist Information (open 9am-1pm, 2pm-6pm) for recommended walking trails.

The Caramulos are great for hiking, wine tasting and there are several river beaches for swimming and picnics. They've also got a car museum, which is perfect for rainy days.

Aveiro also has beach at Costa Nova and Barra. It is a car drive away from Aveiro but worth the effort. Costa Nova has long stretching beaches and beautiful painted houses and Barra is famous for its lighthouse. It is open to the public on Wednesdays in the afternoon and if you can manage
the 228 step the views are stunning (Check the web site for any changes).

Definitely worth a visit if you love old architecture and history. The old capital of Portugal. A University City, very old and beautiful. Plenty of shopping centers, parks and things to do. It's easy to lose a day wandering around taking photographs and sitting at cafes.

A huge swimming complex with a restaurant! They have both an indoor and outdoor swimming pools. A diving pool and a pool for small children. The outdoor pools are open seasonally and normally cost €3 a day. Worth a visit!

For the active guests! This is a 49km track that follows the old railway between Viseu and Santa Comba Dão. You can rent
a bicycle from Quinta da Abelenda at Santa Comba Dão (24km away), see the website above. There are incredible views along the way, cafes in the old station houses, and exercise parks. Very enjoyable and recommended. We recommend starting in Viseu and biking downhill to Santa
Comba.
