It's a must-see for people who are interested in Cebu's local history. It commemorates the Battle of Mactan, a historical event that took place six centuries ago, in April 27, 1521. It's the first known and recorded resistance of the Filipinos against foreign forces who aimed to invade and conquer the Philippines.
There stands a heroic sculpture of Lapu-lapu, the native chieftain of Mactan who defeated the Spanish force under the command of Ferdinand Magellan, who was killed in the battle.
