The Museum Folkwang is an art museum in Essen. It was opened in 1902 in Hagen by Karl Ernst Osthaus under the name Folkwang. The Museum had for a long time a pioneering role in the field of modern art. After the death of Osthaus in 1921, his collection was sold to Essen. Since then, the museum has continued there.
