Very nice seafront area with beaches, long promenade and opportunity to walk to Cramond Island at low tide. For the more adventurous, you can walk from here to South Queensferry and take in the views, nature and sea air. Highly recommended!

You can walk here on the cycle paths - or take the 16 bus on the road passing the harbour to Silverknowes. At the terminus you walk down the hill to Marine Drive which is a coastal walk to Cramond. The village is not much more than the kirk and a pub, but is quaint. Robert Louis Stevenson spent a lot of time there and the bistro/gallery has a mural of one of his poems on the wall. Cramond Isle has a causeway to it when the tide is out - and you can go to the island and walk around. Check the tide tables though. There is also a beach. If you walk further you can get to the River Almond - more walks and a waterfall.

When the tide is out you can walk out to Cramond Island and enjoy the stunning vista of the Firth of Forth and its bridges.

There are better beaches, it's true. Even in Edinburgh possibly most people think of Portobello beach (To me that one is just flat ... But there are nice seaside things on a hot day... Ok I am not having a go at Portobello but it's been really windy when I've been so if you a layer of skin taking off go to there by all means - Nature's exfoliating salon! ) But I think Cramond is nice - more interesting. It has the island, the village (with a few nice pubs) and walks around it. It has public loos. Not sure if I saw them at Portobello... :) And this may not seem like a selling point but you get to see the planes flying in over the Forth, but not like you on Heathrow Flight Path.
