London is hardly short on food markets as it is, but Clerkenwell has three of the best in the city. Famous Smithfield Market, a Grade II listed building, was designed by a Victorian architect in the nineteenth century. Worth a trip if you're an early riser to see a real London meat market in action! Check out the bars and restaurants all around and the City of London on the doorstep.

Smithfield is London's great meat market, and consequently in latter years a host of fabulous restaurants and not-to-be-overlooked workmen's cafe's have sprung up based on the proximity of great meat!
