Trastevere is part of the medieval center of Rome, which means all major monuments and attractions are within walking distance, and can also easily be reached by the public transport system. The neighbourhood is relatively quiet in the morning, but comes alive at night, with numerous bars and restaurants that attract tourists as well as romans, who have been coming to the area to diner for centuries. You’ll find trendy bars, as well as family run restaurants that have stayed practically unchanged since the 1950’s. But Trastevere also has its quieter side, with picturesque narrow streets, small squares and a beautiful botanic garden. You’ll also find an open air food market, little shops, palazzi with artworks by Raffaello and Caravaggio, the oldest church in Rome: S. Maria in Trastevere, known for its beautiful mosaics, plus the enormous Sunday flea market in Porta Portese.
