Kapiti Island Sea Kayak and Nature Reserve Tour

Kayak around Kapiti Island in the Kapiti Marine Reserve with an experienced guide, in a small group. Experience the stunning bush walks on the island, and see the native birds. Enjoy the abundance of wildlife in this pocket of New Zealand. Price is about $160 at time of publishing. Organised well in advance, enquire about available dates. Maximum 8 people. Novice to advanced. Departures 9am from Kapiti Boating Club.
The Otaki river is popular for trout fishing, kayaking, swimming and horse trekking. The river mouth is accessible from the South by driving north up Sims Road, and taking the gravel track north to the river. A number of accesses to the beach are along this track, which offers great picnicking and fishing spots. Local guides available to take you horse trekking, and local kayak hire is available.

Beautiful natural scenery and native bush at the entrance to the Tararua Forest Park. Go to the Ranger Station to see maps of the various tracks on offer.

This beach is 200 metres from the door at Te Horo by Horseback B&B. Safe swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing, surfing. A great beach to walk with loads of pebbles and driftwood. You might even come across the odd seal snoozing on the sand.

Kirsty's Bus Stop Cafe is a favourite with the locals. Trained by Ruth Pretty Catering, Kirsty is open Friday to Sunday, from 10am to 3pm. Out-catering may also be available, organised in advance. Set in gorgeous gardens. Kirsty is a fabulous cook and prepares a range of delicious items at very reasonable prices. Horse tie-up available and dog-friendly. Usually closed over Christmas / New Year.
