On Sept. 11, 2001, 40 passengers aboard Flight 93 took actions against the terrorists who had hijacked their flight. The plane crashed in a field outside of Somerset, PA. The site as now become a National Memorial.

In July 2002, just months after the terrorist attacks, nine miners became trapped in an underground mine just outside of Somerset, PA. After 77 tense hours all nine were rescued. The Rescue Site Museum was established to memorialize the efforts to rescue the men.
