http://goldenbrown.info/ Burger And Joint The word “hamburger” is not often associated with top ingredients, top service and good design. But Tokyo’s Golden Brown hamburger outlets defy all stereotypes. It was three years ago that Nobuya Hisatomi founded Golden Brown in a small corner shop space in Nakameguro, with a neon-free interior and old-fashioned signage handpainted by artist NUTS. A second outlet in Omotesando followed and today, the firm’s 16 staff make 2,600-plus burgers a week. Why the burgers are special Golden Brown’s chefs are referred to as “craftsmen” by founder Hisatomi. Ingredients are key: from lean Australian beef to the light buns made from wild yeast.

http://taste-and-sense.com/blog/ One of the highlights of the Naka-Meguro neighborhood was stumbling upon Taste & Sense, a jewel-box space that serves sandwiches, sweets, and wine and is outfitted with the cutest coffee window. The cafe is produced by the owners of 1LDK, a very well-edited clothing and housewares stores with a women’s shop next door to Taste & Sense, and a men’s outpost across the street:

cross the street from Saturdays Surf NYC in the Daikanyama T-site Tsutaya bookstore is Cafe Anjin, an artsy cafe with a large collection of rare books and magazines and plenty of space to relax. Café Anjin is on the top floor of the Daikanyama T-site, one of Tokyo’s most beautiful bookstores. While dining in Anjin you can peruse the rare books at your table and enjoy coffee, alcohol, and if you like a full meal. I loved the dark lighting of Anjin and the rich, colorful murals and gold pendant lights. It has a very refined and comfortable interior. You can sit in large lounge chairs or at chic barstools. They didn’t want me to take photos, but the food and drinks were delicious.

It has a tasty and good value deli lunch (980yen), but really it’s best as a spot to chill for a few hours, in the afternoon, or the early hours of the morning. The cafe is situated in the top floor of a rather thin building that overlooks the river, and half the seating is window seat style cushions which you will have you dozing the afternoon away like a cat.

Opened in November 2016, this commercial strip is set below the railway tracks in Nakameguro, stretching for a total of 700m and running from the Meguro River across Yamate-dori in the direction of Yutenji. 28 different businesses occupy the complex, all with their own distinct personality: you'll find the likes of Pavilion, a wine and kiln-grilled food specialist; a branch of Tsutaya Books, complete with a café; the newest Tokyo outpost of New York's City Bakery, and Niwakaya Chosuke, an udon izakaya from Kyushu that finally made the move to the capital.

iyugaoka-based roasters and bean importers Onibus have kept a relatively low profile on Tokyo's coffee scene until now, keeping things close to home at their original location while backing up Shibuya's About Life with top-grade beans from places like Rwanda and Guatemala. They can expect a larger share of the spotlight from now on though, as this Nakameguro branch has been making waves in the neighbourhood – and beyond – ever since opening in mid-January of 2016. Occupying a renovated, traditional-style home right by the station, the shop is equipped with a shiny espresso machine and newly acquired roaster, so the ingredients for success are certainly there.

Hailing from Enoshima, this café specialises in French toast. Inspired by the French pain perdu, their take is more of a reinvention than a classic, with its crisp exterior, sweet, almost gooey interior and, most importantly, a whole host of unorthodox toppings. The menu includes versions like Caramel Cinnamon, Rich Creme Brulee, Two Types of Berries, Lime Cream Tiramisu and the limited-order Black Truffle White Sauce (funky!). If you really feel the need to raise your French toast experience to a luxury level, opt for a glass of champagne as part of a drink set menu.

Opened in 2011, this masterful Nakameguro spot sure succeeds in bringing a sourire (smile) to our faces every time. Chef Takahiro Yuzawa makes the trip to Tsukiji daily, returning with superb seafood and produce that forms the basis for his uncomplicated, Japanese-inspired French cooking. His ethos of simplicity and gradual fusion is on full display in the eel and foie gras terrine, an exquisite combo that's become something of a Yuzawa signature. At dinner, the Menu Sourire (¥7,500 plus tax and service) is an excellent choice that'll get you all the flavours of the season without breaking the bank, while the Menu Bonheur (¥15,000) is recommended

Yakitori Akira is not your traditional Yakitori with skewers. It’s more of a “Chicken Cuisine” and it’s a place where you can eat raw chicken (aka chicken sashimi). Located in Nakameguro by the river, this smokey chicken house is quite happening (only open for dinner) and it gets quite loud. Seating is on the floor so for those of you who are not used to sitting on zabuton you may find it a little difficult to dine for a few hours. Address // Riverside Terrace 106, 1-10-23, Nakameguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo

SUSHI! Even though this restaurant just opened in 2011, it has become extremely popular in the Nakameguro neighborhood. Their sushi pieces attract a lot of young diners and it is really the up and coming place to be. You should step foot in here at least once to understand why there is so much rave about this place but we recommend you to call up first to place your reservations. 1st Floor EXA, 1-28-2 Aobadai, Meguro Ward, Tokyo

RAMEN! ’ll cut to the chase: the yuzu ramen at Afuri (阿夫利) is simply an excellent bowl of noodles, among the best you will find in Tokyo. The shio (salt) and shoyu (soy sauce) versions of the yuzu-flavored broth are light and refreshing, with a nice citrus taste. The grilled pork (cha shu) is excellent – the meat is tender and has a nice char color on the surface. Add a soft boiled egg, a Japanese leafy green called mizuna, some bamboo shoots, a piece of seaweed, and noodles made with water from Mt. Afuri in Kanagawa Prefecture and you have one delicious meal. 東京都目黒区上目黒1-23-1 Tokyo, Meguro-ku, Kamimeguro 1-23-1 Closest station: Nakameguro Open 11:00-5:00am

RAMEN! They serve the usual tonkotsu-gyokai double soup for lunch, but at night serve a creamy chicken and seafood blend that is heavenly. Warito also employs a number of tricks to keep your tsukemen at a steady heat throughout the meal. This shop is a descendent of the legendary TETSU, which is probably one of the three or four most famous tsukemen shops in Tokyo. The shop is clean and sleek with lots of dark brown woods contrasting with the gleaming silver kitchen, but none of this is self-consciously overdone. Merely, every part of the ramen experience has been carefully considered. This is a very pleasing shop. Tokyo, Meguro-ku, Aobadai 3-7-10 Open from 11am-330pm and 6-10pm-closed Wed

SUSHI! like its name suggests, Standing Sushi Bar Shibuya is a tiny sushi restaurant where people literally stand around a sushi bar and order sushi exactly like ordering drinks at the clurb. There are about three sushi chefs werkin’ it behind the counter. The sushi masters take your orders directly and place the sushi right in front of you served on a bamboo leaf. You can find all the usual suspects such as tuna, salmon, shrimp, mackerel, uni etc. But when you’re in Japan, you have to try the blue fin tuna belly and for some of you who are a little more adventurous, get load of that CRAY CRAY SHIRAKO aka FISH SKEET !!!

Out of the many deserving coffee shops that have recently opened in Tokyo, if we had to use our trembling, caffeine-addled fingers to place the crown on just one it would be this hipster haven in Ikejiri-Ohashi. The relaxed enclave that it’s carved out of the creative atmosphere of the area is decorated like a garage, with an assortment of tools on the wall and lumber hanging casually from storage units attached to the ceiling. Seating comes in the form of worn old furniture strewn around the room and three stools placed at the counter. As well as being one of the few places in Tokyo you can get a flat white (a double shot of espresso with steamed milk, priced here at ¥450)

This tiny 3rd wave coffee stand near Ikejiriohashi station is a part of a new group of great coffee spots in the neighborhood. They have a simple but excellent coffee menu and a cool vibe. You can purchase beans to take home and delicious cookies and simple sweets. Check out the vintage posters and books on the wall. Menu is in English and Japanese. Some swag available- stickers and other small items. The staff is serious about coffee but still approachable. This is a take away spot with no seating except a small bench outside on the corner.

f you are an American, definitely visit this bar! I heard Bourdain actually visited this place but didn't want to ruin it by putting it on the show. Seek this place out, and ask to sit at the bar so you can take in the music and cocktails. At first, they will tell you to sit at a table, but if you ask them 3-4 times then they will give you a bar spot. Be persistent. Bar snacks are amazing

For the Vinyl Aficionado In the trendy Ebisu neighborhood, the entrance to Martha is a battered wooden door illuminated by a sign that simply says “bar,” set in an even less promising cinder-block wall. Inside, the lights were dim and couples were huddled around tiny tables while the gray-haired DJ/owner was busy curating the soundtrack from the thousands of LPs lining the walls. There is an unlimited choice of watering holes around the city you can pop by after work, but no other bar can match the extensive selection of whiskies at Cabin, including rare bottles of Yamazaki 25 and Hibiki 12. This dining bar located a stone's throw from Nakameguro station is the brainchild of the folks behind Cedros Daikanyama, who wanted to create a place where Tokyoites can unwind after work in a relaxing all-American environment. Though not quite speakeasy, bear in mind that Cabin is easily missable due to its inconspicous cabin-looking structure, hence the name. This is a great spot for a Spring or early Summer picnic and boasts impressive views of the surrounding neighbourhoods. On a clear day, you might well catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji in the distance. This park is also a popular spot for residents of Daikanyama and Nakameguro to walk the already mentioned extremely over pampered dogs. additionally, it’s a great spot to catch the sunset, so depending on timing you could loop back here at the end of your walk.
