Mission Chinese has a rep for being too spicy, too loud, too dark. And that’s precisely why I keep going back! The dim lighting and fun dragon dance decor lend an ambience that’s unique to this place. And as a lover of intensely seasoned and spiced food, this just hits the mark for me, whether I go for a full meal or just pre-night-out snacks. The plentiful vegan options are clearly marked. I like to order the thrice-cooked bacon, which is fantastic when made vegan. I also like the mapo tofu, the steamed market greens, and the fried rice. Portions are generous, perfect for sharing!

$$ The best Chinese Food in SF!: dive, hipster, authentic with a twist, great. Walk-in only. As a Chinese heritage person, I prefer this place more than any restaurants in Chinatown.

Hipster Chinese food. Not necessarily authentic, but unique. Can get crowded but they deliver.

For someone who really knows Chinese food, this one is quite authentic. The ribs are fantastic! It's also hip and down-to-earth!

The sign outside saids Lung Shan because this standard Chinese takeout place was taken over by Chef Danny Bowien who transformed it into a Gourmet very spicy Chinese food like Kung Pao Pastrami.
