Known for its African-American heritage, lively Jackson Ward is home to the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site, the Victorian mansion home of the civil rights activist. The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia offers interactive exhibits, and there’s live music at the iconic Hippodrome Theater. A great place to walk around. Great local restaurants, coffee shops, yoga studios, rich in good architecture and history. This was once known as the Harlem of the South and 2nd Street was known as Black Wall St. African Americans build this part of town under harsh circumstances to rival any other neighborhood in Richmond. Must visits include the Maggie Walker House, walk down 2nd Street and check out the Hippodrome Theatre. Have a cup of coffee at Lift or grab lunch at Mama J's for the best soul food.

Visit some great Galleries such as Gallery 5, Art180, Black iris & Quirk Gallery. Don't forget to visit the Black History Museum & Cultural Center and do some local shopping at Little Nomad (kids), The Someday Shop, and Circle Thrift & Art Space.
