Head out to the Bar U Ranch and discover what life was like for working cowboys in the Old West. Founded in the foothills of southern Alberta in the late 1800s, the Bar U was once one of Canada’s largest ranching operations. Today it’s a National Historic Site – and an exciting way to learn about ranching culture. Visitors to the Bar U Ranch will enjoy a living history experience as costumed interpreters demonstrate ranching skills such as cattle handling, roping, saddle making, blacksmithing and more. The ranch’s visitor centre and 35 historic structures provide a close-up look at Canada’s ranching roots, while the on-site restaurant offers up authentic cowboy grub. Guided walking and wagon tours are available. The Bar U Ranch is located approximately 100 km south of Calgary on Highway 22. Visitor season runs from May 22nd to September 30th.
