Located just a few kilometers from our holiday house, this historic site offers breathtaking views of the Ijsselmeer. It's the perfect destination for a bike ride, and we recommend stopping at Laaksum on the way to enjoy some delicious fish. On 26 September 1345, the Battle of Warns (Frisian: Slach by Warns, Dutch: Slag bij Warns) was fought between Count William IV of Holland and the Frisians during the Frisian-Hollandic War. The annual commemoration of the battle holds great significance for many nationalist Frisians. The Frisians emerged victorious, successfully repelling the Dutch from the eastern coast of the Zuiderzee.
