Another iconic spot is the Whitby Swing bridge. You will likely cross is to explore the town, but if you checkout the blackboard you will discover the timings for it opening, which is a spectacle in itself.

Over 100 years old. Spans the River Esk. Connects the more modern West side of Whitby with the original, historic East Whitby. At high tide gates at each end are closed and the bridge swings open to allow the dredger, fishing boats, yachts etc. to move in or out of the Upper Harbour.
