Quiet walkways through the Grampians Reserve on a hill immediately behind the city centre. This is a favourite place amongst locals - great views, natural surrounds, some farm land & sheep & some remnant ancient forest on walks like the Kahikatea Track!

10 minutes walk from the city centre and you're in another world! There are lots of different trails - don't expect an easy stroll though - there are lots of steep hills. The views from up here are outstanding. It's very popular with the locals - especially dog owners as it's all off lead (but under control). But don't expect any crowds.. Grab a coffee at Melrose Cafe at the historic Melrose House on your way back or explore the beautiful gardens of Fairfield House at the start or end of your walk.

For the best views of Nelson and Richmond take a hike up the Grampians. The paths are well made and the south side has lovely native forest. My 5yo nephew hikes up with his Dad to collect tadpoles from the pond

Heaps of great walking tracks. Many options to stay on the Nelson side of the reserve or walk over into The Brook.

Really close to town but within minutes you can be away from it all. It's a good slog up the hills but you're rewarded with fabulous views across the bay. There's a multitude of access points into the reserve, and lots of different trails to explore.
