If you want to get out into nature near New Orleans there is no better place to do it than the Barataria Preserve. Part of the Jean Lafitte National Park system, it has wonderful boardwalks through palmetto swamps and bayous. Wildlife is abundant and wonderful to see.

If you want to experience the swamp but aren't interested in a swamp boat tour, make the trek down to the Barataria Preserve. A part of the Jean Lafitte Historical Park and Preserve, this refuge offers wetlands (by boat) dirt trails and a boardwalk through the swamp. great for nature enthousiasts.
