ITINERARIO VIA TRIBUNALI DECUMANO MAGGIORE [13] - CHIESA DELLA CROCE DI LUCCA, PIETRASANTA E CAPPELLA At the entrance of Via Tribunali,standsthe imposing church of Croce di Lucca,erected by the order of the Carmelitesin the XVI century,to venerate the crucifix which is kept in the cathedral of the city of Lucca.Nearby, there isthe Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore alla Pietrasanta,where Pope Evaristo was buried. Today the church hosts art exhibitions and cultural events.It is called “Pietrasanta because there was kept a stone that, when kissed, procured indulgence.A few meters ahead of the entrance to the church, is Chapel Pontano, a Renaissance temple built by the humanist Giovanni Pontano.
