One of Denmark’s oldest bookshops, William Dams Boghandel dates back to 1857 and has been run by the same family since 1933. Pernille Dam Povlsen and her husband Peter are in charge of the third-generation enterprise, maintaining a welcoming feel with grand dining tables stacked with new titles and giant leather armchairs for curling up in. The wide selection of volumes is primarily in Danish, with a focus on emerging and homegrown authors, but they also have an English section, and at the back is a corner with gifts such as cushions, candles and baskets.
