Agia Roumeli is a small isolated village, located 56km south of Chania, in a large bay formed at the exit of Samaria's large gorge. This small village is thought to have been built exclusively to serve the thousands of visitors to the gorge as they all revolve around the gorge. The picturesque village provides all the basic amenities, such as taverns with traditional dishes, guest rooms, cafes, mini market, internet access and telephone. Agia Roumeli is a peaceful place in the wild mountainous landscape of the White Mountains. The most common way to get here is either through the Samaria Gorge or the boat from Hora Sfakion, Loutro, Paleochora and Sougia. The most active are worth to come here by walking the path from Chora Sfakion to Agia Roumeli or the path from Sougia. Every day, around 13:00 to 16:00, the village and its beaches are flooded by visitors of the gorge, exhausted and hungry, flooding the beach taverns. However, with the departure of returning afternoon boats, the village "empties" and returns to the slow pace.
