The Detroit Zoo is located about 2 miles north of the Detroit city limits at the intersection of Woodward Avenue, 10 Mile Road, and Interstate 696 in Royal Oak and Huntington Woods, Michigan. The Detroit Zoological Society, a non-profit organization, operates both the Detroit Zoo and the Belle Isle Nature Center, located in the city of Detroit. Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, it provides a natural habitat for more than 2,000 animals representing 245 species. The Detroit Zoo was the first zoo in the United States to use barless exhibits extensively.

Great budget and family friendly zoo. I like to go mid-week when the crowds are not as heavy. Check out the unique polar bear exhibit, the brand new penguin center, or my favorite, the red panda :)

This amazing zoo was just updated to include the world's largest penguinarium. They also have lots of fun special events.
