Go to Franchino’s in North Beach. This is the most adorable, delicious Italian food I’ve had in the city. The same Italian immigrant couple has owned this place since the 70s, and their 4 daughters all work there too. It’s quaint and unpretentious, but the food is tremendous and so fresh. Get the bruschetta and whatever wine they recommend. They do take reservations, but the wait usually isn’t bad. Also good: Tosca and Trattoria Contadina.
