Lucky Pickle

Lucky Pickle is a cool-looking concrete bunker of a cafe, tucked away in a side street in Surry Hills. From 10:30 am, they turn out some of the best sandwiches in Sydney using a crunchy baguette, plus good chicken and free-range pork. My favourite is the chicken katsu with cabbage, mayonnaise, sesame, and tonkatsu sauce—I’ll travel from the city for it. This place is so tiny, so you might miss it—it only seats 12! Find it just before Devonshire hits Crown Street—there’s a little street off to the right, and just look for the queues: They often sell out of sandwiches before the lunch rush is over.
