The large green expanse you can see from Ocean Wave at the back of the beach is called the Northam Burrows Country Park. This is a great place to go for a walk. To get there, walk through the village and out behind the Go Karting and you will find yourself on the Burrows. You can walk along the back of the pebble ridge all the way across to the Taw and Torridge River Estuary and loop round over the sand dunes and back into the village. The Northam Burrows are an area of around 700 acres of salt marshes, grasslands and dunes. This Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is rich in flora and fauna and is a good spot to see migratory birds.

A lovely spot for a rural walk, you can even walk down to Westwood Ho if you wish! There are a few entrances and in the summer months there's a toll to pay to enter. There is now a cafe (Pebble Ridge - check out there facebook page for opening times) and vistors centre.

1.5 miles of sandy beach protected by a wall of huge pebbles. Ideal for swimming, surfing and sailboarding. Kite flying and dog walking.
