The gorge of Imbros is the second most popular gorge for walkers in Crete after the gorge of Samaria. The main reasons for this are that: It is much easier to walk than Samaria: the walking distance is 8 km, the total descent is around 600m and the average walking time is about 2.5 hours. The path is generally easier underfoot. This is the sort of walk that you could easily walk with children. It also would not need to take a whole long day.

Get to know this 6.6-km point-to-point trail near Ibros, Crete. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 27 min to complete. This trail is great for backpacking, camping, and hiking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. The gorge of Imbros is the third most popular gorge of Crete and part of the European path E4. The route starts from the small village of Imbros. The length of the gorge is 11 km and is relatively easy to descend. Its initial part, the so-called Porofarago is quite open, while along the way the gorge narrows and the walls become higher. The most impressive point of the Gorge is the Stenada, a very narrow point where the walls are only 1.6m apart, while their height reaches 300m. After this narrow point, the gorge opens. Another attraction that awe-inspiring the visitor is Xepitira, a beautiful stone arch. The exit of the gorge is in the village of Komitades.

The entrance of the Imbros gorge is at the village of Imbros (780m above sea level) and the end at the village of Komitades (close to Chora Sfakion). The walk is 7 kilometres long and easy, and therefore also suitable for children. The narrowest part of the Imbros gorge is only 2 metres so you can almost touch the two sides with both hands extended! It is one of the few gorges that are passable in wintertime (except if there is heavy rainfall). (36km from Kalyves)
