Built in 1707, it was rebuilt after the earthquake destroyed most of the building and its gilded. It is a building in Baroque style, whose exterior simplicity contrasts with the decorative inner wealth. The decor in gilt is considered the most beautiful in the country.

There’s an unadorned whitewashed facade crested by two bell-towers, but this gives way to a resplendent nave. Every surface is coated with detailed gilded woodcarving, azulejos or paintings. The frescos in the ceiling vaults are a standout, and the paintings on the walls depict the life of St Anthony of Lisbon.

Probably built under the reign of King João V, it was built to serve as a place of worship for the military of Lagos, belonging to the military administration. Damaged in the 1755 earthquake, it was recovered in 1769 by order of Hugo Beaty, commander of the Lagos Infantry Regiment. The Church is of Baroque traces, as can be seen from its main façade, containing a glass decorated with shells and a national shield with ramifications, Jesuit style. The exterior aspect of the Church is simple, with smooth stone walls.
