A fitting tribute to "The Father Of Computer Science". Along with his accomplishments in computer science he is regarded as a hero who saved millions of lives by cracking The Enigma Machine along with his team - Please watch "The Imitation Game". On this site also stands a Bee from Manchester's Bee in the City exhibition. Well worth a quick look!

Next to gay village. Don't forget this mastermind! Sackville Gardens is a small park just to the north of Canal Street is a lush green space where you can relax and embrace nature in the fast-paced city. However, it’s not just the chance for a quiet picnic that should draw you here because this park is also a spot for reflection for our community, featuring: The Alan Turing Memorial: A statue of the WW2 code breaker who was arrested for his sexuality and committed suicide as a result. The Beacon of Hope memorial: Mentioned above, this is the only permanent memorial in the UK to those lost to HIV/AIDS. The Transgender Memorial: Here several butterflies are carved into the tree to represent the “change from one state of existence to another”.

The Alan Turing Memorial, situated in Sackville Park in Manchester. is a sculpture in memory of Alan Turing, a pioneer of modern computing. Turing is believed to have committed suicide in 1954 two years after being convicted of gross indecency (i.e. homosexual acts). As such he is as much a gay icon as an icon of computing, and the memorial is situated near to Canal Street, Manchester's gay village.
