At the top of Mauna Loa Strip road is a lookout and trailhead. Its one of the routes to the summit of Mauna Loa (that would be serious back country camping at high elevation requiring a permit). The look out overlooks Kilauea Caldera and the surrounding landscape.

12 mile drive up the road to the lookout and trailhead - you might want to stop to adjust to rapid elevation change, but gorgeous up there!

This is a very nice small leisure hike. Beautiful views from one of the Maunaloa Lookouts.
