The national monument Haraldshaugen, locally also known as Haraldsstøtten, is a monument commemorating Harald Hårfagre's unification of Norway in 872. The support was unveiled in 1872 in connection with the millennium anniversary of the battle of Hafrsfjord, where Norway was united into one kingdom.
Haraldshaugen is the monument of Harald hårfagre - the king that gathered Norway to one kingdom.
The first Norwegian king is buried under this monument. The large monolith represents the king, while the smaller ones represents the local kings that were defeated or merged when King Harald united Norway to one kingdom. The monument is located just a few hundred meteres from the coast, and offers beautiful scenery and hiking trails
Beautiful place for a walk close to the sea and have a close look at Haraldshaugen monoment.
